Showcasing the best of the best Kelowna Comicon is proud to bring you our Annual Cosplay contest!



Competitive cosplayers strive to hone their craft and what better way to show off their talents by entering our annual cosplay contest! This contest will be open to ages 13 and up and will aim to show off some amazing craftsmanship! So join up or come support your favorite cosplayer by watching the show!

Looking to Take Part?

Ages: 13 and up

Prizes : Best in Show and one for each level per category(ie: one winner for novice needlework, one for journeyman, one for masters)


  • Cosplays must be at least 70% handmade by either the entry or group(ie. If the crafter hires a model to walk their stage this is fine but please note this in your application).

  • Unless specifically noted in the above rule for a group any wig alterations, props, etc must have been done by the entrant.

  • If you wish to enter a heavily altered store bought cosplay you MUST provide explanations and examples of how you altered it.

  • Commissioned and bought costumes or costumes mostly made up of bought general clothing are not accepted for cosplay contest entries barring the exceptions above.

Categories:


Needlework - Cosplay constructed by sewing, stitching, embroidery, etc.
  • Novice: Just started sewing? Never entered a contest? What to show off what you’ve accomplished for a beginner at needlework? Well this is the place for you!

  • Journeyman: Feeling confident in your sewing? Entered and won a novice contest before? Well this is the place to enter!

  • Master: You’ve mastered the art of sewing and won a journeyman contest, so whats next? Entering your seams in our master contest of course!


FX - Cosplay that features animatronics, optical effects, mechanical effects, special effects makeup, prosthetics, etc.
  • Novice: If you’ve never entered a contest and just got into fx this would be the place for you to enter!

  • Journeyman: Got your lights all in a row? Entered and won a novice contest before? Well this is the place to enter!

  • Master: You’ve mastered fx, you’ve won a journeyman contest before and you're ready to take your body painting to the next level? Enter our master contest!



Armor - Cosplay constructed primarily using EVA foam, Worbla, Wonderflex, cardboard, etc.
  • Novice: If you’ve never entered a contest and just got into armor this would be the place for you to enter!

  • Journeyman: Entered and won a novice contest before and are pretty confident in your building skills? Well this is the place to enter!

  • Master: You’ve won a journeyman contest before and your armor building is at your peak level? Well enter our master contest!



Contest applications will be closed August 15th to give us time to address all concerns and time limits. With all applications we will need:

  • A full description of your cosplay with examples of your work, and if possible work in progress photos for our judges.

  • A 30 second sound bite that you would like us to play while you strut the stage. The strut will consist of you walking on, posing and walking off. If you would like to do a performance please take a look at our cosplay masquerade.

  • The name you would like to use on stage

  • Which category and level you are entering(ie. Novice Needlework)

Due to time restrictions and other concerns not all applicants may be accepted. Please make sure to apply in a timely manner so your entry can be reviewed. Again the deadline for entry is August 15th.


To note a second time prizes will be awarded to the first winner in each category and level as well as best in show, ribbons will be awarded to all other entries.



Costume, Weapons & Props Rules



Due to the fact it is a family-friendly event and we want to be safe there will be restrictions for the contest. Note in particular that metal blades (sharp or blunt), working projectile weapons, and wooden or metal bats & paddles are all forbidden, as well as any outfits deemed unfit for a family-friendly environment(ie: nudity, exposed costume or prosthetic genitalia. Adult fetish attire such as extreme BDSM gear is also unsuitable.) If you are unsure if your costume is acceptable email cosplay@kelownacomicon.com)
