After 20 years as a professional voice actor for anime, cartoons and video games, BRENDAN HUNTER has been in many iconic and influential products from around the world. Perhaps best know as Hisoka's english VA from the original Hunter X Hunter ("99 dub"), he started in Dragon Ball GT (Uub/Oob), followed quickly by Tien Shinhan in Dragon Ball, with roles in Megaman Powered Up, the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, Viper's Creed, and many more. Exciting news! Michael Coleman, who had to cancel last year because of the terrible fires, will be returning this year for Kelowna ComiCon 2024. We're absolutely thrilled to have them come back to Kelowna! Award-winning actor/writer/director/educator, Michael Coleman has worked for some of the biggest franchises in the world, including Marvel, Disney, DC, and several top anime series. His work includes numerous animated titles such as Hello Kitty, Dragonball Z, Inuyasha, and Gundam. He voiced Sunspot on X-Men: Evolution and worked in several top live action series such as Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, Stargate, and Fringe. Michael has written, directed, and starred in musical theatre productions (based on parodies of Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings), and has performed Shakespeare on various stages. Michael is also the founder of Story Institute and educates professional actors around the world. Currently Michael has multiple projects in development for different OTT networks and Hallmark. He continues to work extensively as an actor, writer, and director, as well as finding lots of time to mentor the next generation of storytellers who are looking to pursue similar goals. Showcasing the best of the best Kelowna Comicon is proud to bring you our Annual Cosplay contest! Competitive cosplayers strive to hone their craft and what better way to show off their talents by entering our annual cosplay contest! This contest will be open to ages 13 and up and will aim to show off some amazing craftsmanship! So join up or come support your favorite cosplayer by watching the show! Just watching the show? Ages: 13 and up Prizes : Best in Show Best Individual, Masters Best Individual, Journeyman Best Individual, Novice 3 Judges Choice Novice level cosplays must be at least 60% handmade by either the entry or group, Journeyman level cosplays must be at least 70% handmade, and Masters level cosplays must be at least 80% handmade. If entering as a group each participant must have contributed to the group cosplay unless specifically noted. If you are the crafts person and not modeling your own creation please note that in your application, models are accepted but only the entrant will be judged unless entering as a group. If you wish to enter a heavily altered store bought cosplay you MUST provide explanations and examples of how you altered it. Commissioned and bought costumes or costumes mostly made up of bought general clothing are not accepted for cosplay contest entries barring the exceptions above. If you would like to enter the cosplay contest with no judging, just to go on stage and show off your cosplay, please apply the normal way with the application form but state walk on only in your application. Please include the name of your character and the series they are from if applicable. A 30 second sound bite that you would like us to play while you strut the stage. The strut will consist of whatever you would like to do within that time frame, as long as it falls under the safety guidelines. Cerberus is a Kelowna-based cosplayer who focuses on wig-styling and makeup. She started with closet cosplays and learned how to make props and style wigs before getting more into sewing and costume-making. In order to reduce waste in cosplay, she prioritizes using materials she already has and re-using wigs, base outfits, and props. Guest Cosplayer - HoyzaCoz
Join us in welcoming back HoyzaCoz, an enthusiastic cosplayer, for Kelowna Comicon 2024! Despite missing out last year due to the tragic fires, we're excited to see his imaginative cosplays once again. Vancouver based creator - Hoyzacoz has been in the cosplay community since 2015 after developing an addiction for the hobby after his first con, he immediately arrived home to craft his first cosplay and has been at it on a daily basis. Hoyza prides himself in being able to construct his cosplays with dollar store items, such as cheap EVA foam, thrifted fabric and is a master of the hot glue gun. In fact, every cosplay he has created has cost under $120!
There is no costume or character Hoyza fears creating. EVA armor and weapons are his specialty, but he is also a keen sewer, wigmaker and painter.
He won 1st place once at a Halloween Cosplay contest with his Zinogre (Monster Hunter) armor in Vancouver.
Having guested once at the Harrisburg PopComicCon in Pennsylvania before COVID hit, he is incredibly thrilled to share his craft and enthusiasm again at cons.
